Southampton has excellent transport links with the rest of Britain. The centre of London can be reached in just over an hour.

Travel by Bus and Shuttles


There are several companies offering frequent bus services across the city and surrounding area. Destinations include: Eastleigh, Fareham, Portsmouth and Southsea, Chandlers Ford, the New Forest and London.


Around the city centre, City Link, which is a free shuttle bus service, runs between Southampton Central Station, West Quay Shopping Centre and Town Quay. A second free shuttle bus service runs to the north and east of Southampton's centre.

Car Hire and Road Travel


If you want drive to Southampton and are travelling from the west, follow the M27 until junction 3 and take the M271. Follow the signs first to Southampton and then to the port. When driving from the east, exit M27 at junction 7 and follow the A334 and theA3024 to Southampton. Once again, follow the signs to the ferry terminals situated on Town Quay Road.

Southampton offers car hire from many reputed companies who have depots in the city. It is, however, more convenient to book car hire in advance online where there is one service offering the best deals from several car rental companies.

Trains and Rail Travel


Southampton Central Railway Station can be reached by rail services from all across the UK. City Link shuttle bus will transport you to the ferry terminals for free.
